Do I need a referral to see Dr Mark Lee?

It is recommended that you obtain a referral from your GP prior to your appointment with Dr Lee.  Having a referral enables you to claim a Medicare rebate of $72.75 from your initial consultation fee.  In addition, if your procedure has Medicare item numbers applicable a referral is necessary in order to claim those rebates.  Referrals from a GP are valid for one year while a referral from a specialist is only valid for three months.

How long do I have to wait before I can have a consultation?

The average wait to have a consultation with Dr Lee is one to two weeks.

Will I see Dr Lee at the consultation?

All consultations are directly with Dr Lee so that you can discuss any questions or concerns that you may have with him in person.

Do I need to bring anything to my consultation?

Please bring your referral, Medicare card and private health insurance card with you.  It is also a good idea to write a list of any questions that you may have and bring it with you on the day.  That way you can ensure that all of your questions and concerns have been answered and that you have all the information you require to make an informed decision regarding surgery.

How long do I have to wait before I can have surgery?

The average waiting time for surgery is approximately 2-6 weeks following your initial consultation.  This time can vary depending on Dr Lee’s schedule.

How much will the surgery cost?

The cost depends on the type of surgery.  You will be given a written estimation of all costs involved with your procedure following your consultation with Dr Lee including hospital and anaesthetist costs.  Feel free to email or telephone our rooms on 9382 3340 if you would like an estimate of costs before booking a consultation.

Does private health insurance cover cosmetic surgery?

Some cosmetic procedures have Medicare item numbers applicable which enable a rebate on both Dr Lee’s fee and the anaesthetist’s fee.  Having a Medicare item number means that your private health fund will cover all or part of your hospital costs i.e. theatre and bed fees.  Check with your private health insurer if you are uncertain if your procedure will be covered or if you have any exclusions to your policy.  Feel free to discuss this with our friendly staff at your consultation appointment.

What is the difference between a specialist plastic surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon?

Anyone with a medical degree can perform cosmetic surgery.  The difference between a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and a Cosmetic Surgeon is the amount of training they have had.  It takes 8 to 10 years of additional training, after graduating from medical school as a doctor, to become a qualified Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
