Using the latest technology in hair reduction, the Cutera ProWave system delivers a specially tailored light source to enable permanent reduction of hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle. As hair develops in phases we can only treat hair in its active, visible stage. For significant hair removal most patients require a course of four to six treatments which are spaced at least four to six weeks apart.
Is it permanent?
Yes. Patients can expect an 85% reduction in hair after four to six treatments. As we age our hair patterns change, so this does not prevent the possibility of new hair growth over the years.
How is your treatment different from other IPL clinics?
Our ProWave technology is effective on a wide range of skin types and is also one of the fastest. Shorter treatment times provide a nice benefit to our patients, especially when they want their backs or legs treated. It is a safe and effective way to permanently reduce hair growth.
How does ProWave compare with electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, ProWave effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.
What does it feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anaesthetic or pain medication is typically required however some patients may prefer to use a topical anaesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
Do I need to grow the hair out before my treatment?
No, in fact, we ask that you shave beforehand since the treatment is targeting the hair follicle itself – not just the hair.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your ProWave treatment the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be a regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair but it is fine to shave.
Is it safe?
The beauty of our ProWave technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterward but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures, there is a slight degree of risk and we will discuss this with you thoroughly during a consultation.
How much does it cost?
This depends entirely on the size of the area, and the number of treatments we estimate are needed to achieve clearance. This will be discussed with you in detail during a consultation.
Can anyone have it done?
A good candidate is someone with pale to medium skin tone who wants to reduce hair that is light brown or darker. Laser and light based system cannot treat blonde, white, red or gray hair as there is no melanin in it to absorb the light. We will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of consultation.
Is your IPL machine approved and registered with the TGA?
Yes, the Cutera Xeo platform is approved and registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration. The product ID is 171293 and ARTG Number is 99849.
Do you offer a free consultation to discuss ProWave Hair Removal?
Yes. Treatments can be discussed in detail during a free consultation with our cosmetic nurse, Alex, RN, and a treatment program that’s tailored specifically to you can be recommended.
